Hi AJ
I didn't want to read and run without saying anything as I notice no one has replied yet......
Sorry to hear Heather is missing. The fact she has a microchip is a good thing and increases your chances of finding her. Please take a minute to read my story in the Home again safe & sound section 'Grey Male cat missing in Fareham'(although I warn you it's lengthy!). I have recently found my cat after 9 months thanks to his microchip and alot of perseverance.
It sounds like you are doing all the right things although I found I got the most response from leafletting through letter boxes. It is time consuming, but the best way to get Heather's face known.
Was her collar found close to home?
I would start leafletting close to where her collar was found as that seems as though it would be the last place you knew her to be.
You have come to the right place as everyone on the Hovel has lots of experience with missing cats. You will get some excellent advice and support (I did).
Good luck with your search and make sure you keep us updated.
Jannine x

this is so tragic. It has happened to me twice now and we all know the anquish the owner will be going through.
At 18 days it must be said its getting near the limit a cat can survive without water or food if it is still shut in somewhere like a garage or shed so it is become potentially urgent .
Both of my cats were found in neighbour's garages after nearly two weeks. On one occasion my neighbour had looked in his garage several times and used it daily but still did not see my cat. I finally insisted on looking myself and it was at least 5 minutes before Teddy emerged sheepishly from a pile of rubbish.
Cats will mostly sleep when they are trapped and will often either not hear the owners voice or will be too frightened or weak to come out to a stranger. Sometimes they simply do not get a chance as people stick their heads in a shed , call out once ,take a cursory look around and close the door again.
My advice based on personal experience is always the same . Insist on looking yourself in your neighbour's garages, sheds and out buildings. Spend at least 3-4 minutes there calling all the time whilst looking in and under everything.
The other likely alternative is someone has taken the cat in as a `stray'
I visited an old lady on Friday who had at least 9x cats in her house and none were allowed out. She admitted to me that one cat had belonged to her next door neighbour ! Worth checking out any locals that are known to take in stray cats.
Cats rarely stray far from their home territory.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPLYS RE: HEATHERS STILL MISSING
|
Thank you to *Janni* Peanut and Roger.. *Soz if spelled name incorrect*
Useful info thank you very much guys x
Her collar was handed in after leaflets were posted through doors in the area. (Although leaflets were on lampposts)A lady said she found Heathers collar in her garden although it took her 13 days to hand it back... Even though it had name address and telephone number on it. ( These things happen I guess)
I must point out that I am a helper/neighbour of Heathers owners and have their full permission to post.
Owners have trap out and about in certain places and have put smelly socks and contents of hoover bag out but to no-avail. Heather REALLY HAS SIMPLY DISAPPEARED...
Does anyone know of any cat feeders in the CRAWLEY AREA whom might have info.
Any pointers that I might not of thought of ?
MANY MANY THANK Q'S TO YOU ALL X
AJ X

its beginning to sound to me like a catknapping
Not sure what sort of collar it was but they don't usually just fall off .Especially on the day the cat goes missing.
My feeling is the cat has been taken in and is being kept in somewhere local. Somewhere where someone could pick the cat up and carry it to their house without being scratched half to death or acting suspiciously.
I would try making the cat simply too hot to keep. Really go to town on those posters Make some really big ones A3 if necessary. Plaster them everywhere locally . Put another lot of leaflets through doors.
Contact the local free newspapers. They will post a leaflet with free newspapers for about 1p per address which is a bargain.
If anyone is keeping the cat in they will soon realise someone is going to find them out. Hopefully they will release the cat

Hi Peanut (and AJ)
I was thinking that the collar could have come off during a fight with another cat (?) especially if Heather had strayed into another cats territory. Just an idea.....
Is the garden close to Heather's house?
Still, either way, I agree with plastering the area with posters, leaflets...even try door knocking around the houses that are close to the garden where the collar was found, then work your way outwards.

Hi AJ
If memory serves, I think Lisamoo found her cat's collar when her cat was lost, she feared the worst and was found a couple of months later in the area the collar was found, safe but very confused ... never stop looking!

Just don't give up hope and stop looking. Cats have an amazing ability to return, even if catnapped. They are a lot more loyal that most give them credit for! Chin up Hon!

Missing White-Torti Blue Eyes Crawley West Sussex
|
Hiya all
Bit more info...
Heather was an indoor cat who went out rarely just to play near-by.
In answer to your question.. Yes where Heathers collar was found was in the next street along called Blackheath in Pound Hill Crawley Sussex.
Anyone got any suggestions as to what time morning evening is best to search around. and in your experience ? Do you think that if somebody has fallen for heather and is keeping her in,will they ignore the posters and knocks on the door ??
Heather was rescued by the cats protection from a home that had loads of other cats, she was neglected and thats why she has only FOUR teeth. Bless ... XThank you Jannine Peanut GRANNY Paula Rosyrockets Glasfryn & others x x x
Take care
Aj xx
