 Beauty won't use scratching post

I've got Beauty a scratching post but she won't use it. I've tried putting her paws on it (like I read somewhere - you are supposed to put the cat's paws on his/her scratching post to help train them to use it)

She seems to be scared of it though Sad Question

try spraying it with a bit of cat nip spray .... Kookamunga cat nip spray from Pets at Home is excellent (it's also very good for "refreshing" toys).

most cats use the furniture Sad we have several scratching posts and they do get well used but all of ours inc the local stray use the fence postd in the garden.

we once foolishly bought a large cat camp and scratcher and they all stared at it inanely it cost a fortune and is now being used by Rons strays at his rescue.

I don't know if it works but it may be worth a try. (saw someone on telly tell someone to do it.) They rubbed a dry cloth all over the cat to get their scent and then rubbed the cloth up and down the scratch post.
I am quite lucky with mine as they all use them most of the time.

It might be because she came from a rescue centre and it might remind her of the scratching post there (even though it's completely different to the one the rescue has got)

She used the bottom of her scratching post today! Very Happy

She went over to it, had a little stretch and caught her claws on the base of it! Without me having to do anything! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
