I feel like crying or screaming or both at the same time

Fuzz is driving me up the wall.

15 times I have had to wash my whole bed including duvet and sheets in the last 3 weeks.

For the past 6 months he has been getting progressively worse in using his litter tray. He has been peeing in the corner of the room the trays are kept in -- I've tried everything to clean the area so he wont go back to it including washing powder, citronella disinfectant and specially bought stuff from the pet shop. I have tried putting his tray in the corner but he just pee's beside it, I've tried putting food bowls in the area and he still pee's there. The carpet now stinks and I'm going to have to replace it -- but I dont see the point in doing so if the peeing behaviour continues!

Now in the last 6 weeks he has started to poo on the bed. It was slightly runny and it did have blood through it to begin with so he was whisked off to the vets, he was given an anti-infamatory as the vet thought there may be something going on and he was starved for 24 hours. Afterward his number 2's went back to normal but he is still pooing on the bed -- not every day sometimes he will use the tray fine but others Rolling Eyes

There are 3 trays, 2 covered and one not in the house, 2 are in the same room. They are freshly lined and changed, washed etc every single day. All the other cats use them fine and he will some days.

Nothing has changed that I can think of to cause the behaviour, the litter we use is the same.

I'm at my wits end. Its driving me insane. This morning he started to wee right in front of me beside the TV unit -- I had just cleaned the trays about an hour prior to this.

Suggestions??? Please???

He must still be able to smell traces of wee in random places... we had to wash one of our cat beds a million times before its smell label returned to "sleep here" and not "poo here". I suggest you whip a few grand out of your back pocket and get new carpets and bedding Rolling Eyes Seriously, from reading the cat detective books, it seems that anywhere they can detect previous toilet usage smell, is labelled for evermore as a handy toilet. For the bed, you could get a cheapie shower curtain to leave on it? That's an unattractive pooing surface and he might learn to look elsewhere... good luck!

This is an issue close to my heart I have a grumpy wench of a tortie cat who insists on doing this in the hall hence why we had to get it tiled.

Have you tried going back to basics with him i.e. treat him like a kitten and confine him to one room to get him use to the whole littre tray again.

Home Remedy for cat urine smell. This is a great recipe for removing cat urine odor from carpet. Start by blotting up as much of the urine as possible with old rags or paper towels. Next mix 3 parts water with one part vinegar and saturate the spot.Dry thoroughly using the same method mentioned above. Once dry, sprinkle the area with Baking Soda. Next mix ¾ cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide solution with one tsp. dish detergent and sprinkle over the Baking Soda. Try this first on a small inconspicuous area of the carpet to make sure the hydrogen peroxide won’t discolor your carpet. Next, use your fingers or an old brush to work the Baking Soda in. I’ve used an old hairbrush with little bits of plastic over the tips with good results. Allow this to dry and vacuum it up. If there’s still a slight odor when done, lather, rinse and repeat.

Here is a link to a web-site hopefully its of some use http://www.cat-urine.net/

This is a problem that always comes up from time to time, all I can suggest is the same as the others but also try & think back 6 months as to when this started as there might be something you have missed that has caused this to start up.

Have you tried Simple Solution? it's absolutely brilliant at getting rid of all traces of smell. Also, how old are the trays? Perhaps if they are scratched in the bottom, they may feel funny (even through tray liners) so it may be worth replacing them.

Is there anything behavioural at the moment with the rest of your feline family, perhaps a swipe round the head with a paw on a toilet visit is putting Fuzz off? I'm just thinking of the old thing about one tray per cat plus one spare to avoid problems (I seem to remember you've got three cats, please forgive me if I am wrong).

If all else fails (and there is no underlying cause - maybe a water infection etc.) then you could borrow a pen and retrain him - it may seem cruel in the long term, but I got this tip from a rescue about how to retrain cats with tray problems.

Whatever happens, come back and let us know if anything worked and how you're getting on with this Smile

Hugs,

Carolyn

That should have been SHORT term not long term, the edit facility for posts appears to have vanished from the Hovel!!!

kinda, sorta, maybe Laughing

Well after lots of visits to the vets and diet changes etc we have found that fuzz has become food intolerant to almost any commercial food. He has always had a sensitive tum since we rehomed him and often sicked his food back up but never lost any weight and never seemed sick in any other way - the vet said sometimes the intolerance just builds up.

He was on Royal Canin S/O for about 3 weeks and the poo-ing everywhere stopped but then it started again Sad The vet reckons he has also built up an intolerance to the S/O now.

Now we have just started to move them all over to a raw diet -- its really the only thing I can think of that Fuzz 'should' be able to eat. So far he has been great, no sicking up anything whatsoever and no poo-ing except in the litter tray Very Happy And he is LOVING the raw diet - wolfs it down and licks his lips afterward.

He is however still peeing in the one corner of the room, although I think that is more of a scent problem now as it is right through to the floorboards. We are going to try and find a way of getting rid of the smell from the floorboards and carpet this week but will probably have to lift the carpet - thankfully we have a few bits of spare carpet we can just join up.

you may have tryed this but it worked for me when ickle had major peeing problems, wash that area in biological washing liquid, let it dry,put surgical spirit in to a spray bottle, spray the whole area plus a bit.it should dry quite quick as it is alcohol based, when dry,go back over it again with biological liquid.then taht shuold do the trick for the scent left there.just in case it has now become a habit, you can buy corner trays for ferrets which have a small hole in the top to secure it,hope this helps
