 Public Poll - Microchipping - Should this be a legal requirement?

I WAS NOT ALWAYS IN FAVOUR OF MICROCHIPPING BUT AS TIME HAS GONE ON AND I HAVE SEEN WHAT PROBLEMS THERE ARE IN ANIMAL WELFARE IT HAS INCREASINGLY BECOME OBVIOUS THAT SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE.
It has also become increasingly obvious that microchipping is the only way to keep tabs on our pets and its not only us its all the professionals that come into contact with our pets and the pets of others its really just like having a pet register and if they can do this with other domestic animals (cattle sheep and pigs) then I am sure it would not be beyond any organisation to continue this through to our pets only rather than having ear tags it would be microchips.

I thought about this and the wording thats why I worded it domestic pets as apposed to domestic animals.
domestic animals are mostly identifiable anyway as they are tagged from birth to death and any meat you might buy can be traced back to the farm they came from.
And as for who would decide what animals would be microchipped it would be for those who run specific breeds and animals to thrash out before it became law and as I said before those who have animals at the date of the law would be able to decide whether their animals should be done or not but any taken on after that date must be chipped and any expense could be down to the shelter or rescue that passes on the animal and this in turn could be done by a grant from either government or, one or other of the larger charities who do this now.
It will never be a simple thing to do bringing in this sort of law and it surprises me that when they bought in the new animal welfare law last year this was not included ........but then you had to be one of the favoured few to get a word in edge ways and as per usual common sense and the blooming obvious went out of the window while they argued with one another. Its really quite a simple thing make it law and sort out some detail before and after the event,I am sure somebody will come up with something that will be a major problem but I am sure it could be got over or around and I have given my answer to some of those above.

I think it should be mandatory but also a great deal of pressure should be put onto vets & rescue centres to scan animals, they have too many excuse's ie the scanner wasn't working or we forgot & too many people are left high & dry because there pet that they have had microchipped has been rehomed

Oh dear, when so many are in favour of chipping you would think they would sign Rog, maybe we all could think of people to send it to.
